State of the space industrial base 2021: Building space infrastructure and services for security and prosperity (Atlantic Council)

Militaries, economies, and societies are increasingly dependent on services offered from space. Indeed, commerce through and enabled by space applications make up an increasing portion of the global economy. Yet threats to space abound, from mismanagement of finite space in Earth orbit, to states taking aggressive action with satellites. Atlantic Council experts have called for a long-term approach to space, including better space governance at the domestic and international levels. This event will discuss these themes and launch the 2021 “State of the Space Industrial Base Report.”

In July 2021, the US Space Force, Defense Innovation Unit, and the Air Force Research Laboratory convened the third State of the Space Industrial Base Conference, hosted by NewSpace New Mexico. With input from 250 experts from across government, industry, and academia, the “State of the Space Industrial Base Report 2021” discusses a comprehensive unified civil, commercial, and national security space strategy. Prior reports were released in 2019 and 2020.

This Atlantic Council event will feature two panels with authors of the report and industry experts to discuss the report’s findings and recommendations for national security innovation. Join us to hear what is required of the administration, the Defense Department, and the investment community to secure US leadership in the space domain.
