Syrian Journalists Warned Before HTS’ Massacres Against The Alawites: The New Regime Is Allowing Acts Of Vengeance Against Them; International Intervention Is A Necessity (MEMRI)

On March 6, 2025, clashes broke out in Syria’s coastal region between the security forces of the new Syrian regime lead by Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham (HTS) and armed remnants of the previous regime, which reportedly receive assistance from Iran and Hizbullah. These clashes soon developed into a wide-scale armed conflict in the area, especially in the Alawite-majority governorates of Latakia and Tartous, which included deliberate attacks by the new regime’s forces on Alawite civilians. According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, by March 10, 2025 – the day on which the regime announced the end of its military operation in the region – the number of civilians killed in the clashes reached 973, including women, children and elderly people.
