Russia develops tantalum technology for advanced superconducting quantum chips

(DigWatch) Researchers at Bauman Moscow State Technical University and the All-Russian Research Institute of Automatics have developed a technology for manufacturing superconducting integrated circuits based on high-purity tantalum. The material platform is designed to improve the performance of quantum electronic components and support the development of more reliable superconducting quantum processors. The technology addresses a major challenge in quantum computing: maintaining quantum states for longer periods. Tantalum has fewer surface defects and a more stable oxide than aluminium, potentially reducing decoherence and information loss.
