Washington has appointed a new diplomat to lead the US mission to Yemen, the State Department announced on Wednesday.
Neil Hop has assumed the role of chargé d’affaires, becoming the top US diplomat for Yemen.
“As the top US diplomat to Yemen, his mission is to advance President Trump’s critical priorities and Secretary Rubio’s diplomatic efforts in close partnership with the Republic of Yemen Government,” the US Embassy for Yemen said in a post on X.
A career diplomat with 24 years of government service, Hop has held a range of positions at the State Department and other US agencies.
He will lead the US mission’s efforts to implement key pillars of the Trump administration’s National Security Strategy, including safeguarding freedom of navigation in the Red Sea, preventing the region from “serving as an incubator or exporter of terrorism,” and strengthening the security of US partners.
