(Marco Emanuele – Consigliere della SIOI per l’Innovazione)
Vero, falso, verosimile.
(English Version)
True, false, plausible. As it becomes harder to understand what is happening, the plausible seems to prevail.
Blurred, and very often difficult to grasp, the plausible runs through everything; it runs through us. So we begin to wonder whether what we see is really as it appears or whether, instead, it is the product of some manipulation – now commonplace in this age of shifting threats: hybrid and cognitive warfare docet.
Thus, when we are confronted with powerful images, many are led to think that an uncontrolled invasion has taken place in Ceuta, that we are objectively in danger. The plausible becomes true within us, a source of fear and the cause of an immediate urge to take cover, to defend ourselves, driven by fear of the other, of the different. It is something ancient, as we know well, yet dramatically accelerated in the age of the turbo technological revolution.
It is the plausible, constructed with undeniable skill, that deprives us of any real critique of the present, that places obstacles on our path toward what lies beyond. In the end, when we do not fully understand, it seems easier to listen to those who urge us to restore old orders, to contribute to a culture of hatred and separation in the onlife condition (misuse of the social media).
We are not addressing this issue, nor will we, through the muscle-flexing confrontation between right and left. We find that these worn-out terms no longer capture the meaning of the de-generative crisis of politics. First, we need to pause and reflect, to build new cultural and operational paradigms together, and only then choose a side of reference: it must be done consciously.
The crisis of leadership, and of governance, is also evident in having yielded to the plausible, in having failed to work – in complex terms – to define a frame of reference while, over the past decades, the world was changing and transforming itself. Now a true metamorphosis is underway, a change of state, and we are navigators increasingly unable to face a sea that is so often uncontrollable.
Deep within us remains the need for the common good, a perspective that calls for humanitas, for a way of thinking finally reconnected with reality, beyond the plausible. Only our humanity can help us understand the truth of historical dynamics, and this is a process that must go beyond the individual level: we will continue to insist on our planetary destiny, the common home of the community of peoples. We must seek out paths alternative to the one mapped by the architects of chaos, who are proliferating in this historical phase.
