Palantir’s Maven artificial intelligence system is set to become an official Pentagon programme: this is stated in a letter to US defence leaders from Deputy Secretary Steve Feinberg, dated 9 March and revealed by Reuters on its website. Maven is a command-and-control software platform that analyses battlefield data and identifies targets. It is already the primary artificial intelligence operating system for the US armed forces, which have carried out thousands of targeted strikes against Iran over the past three weeks. The decision is expected to come into effect by the end of the current financial year, which ends in September, according to the letter. Palantir Technologies, a contractor for the Pentagon and other US agencies, is the same company that is also developing Titan, an artificial intelligence model entirely geared towards military use: the name is an acronym for Tactical Intelligence Targeting Access Node and it is a mobile ground station designed to accelerate the timeline from sensor to shooter, integrating satellite data and ground sensors.
