NATO leaders will recommit the alliance’s Open Door Policy at the Brussels summit, the White House press service announced in a statement on Sunday.
“Leaders will recommit to NATO’s Open Door Policy, which provides a path to membership for any European country that shares our values and meets the necessary responsibilities and obligations,” according to the statement. However, Ukraine and Georgia are not mentioned in this part of the statement.
The NATO summit, which is to take place in Brussels on June 14 with the participation of US President Joe Biden, will become the shortest one over the last 20 years. It will last one day and consist of only one working session that will last approximately 2.5 hours. NATO summits usually last two days and include 3-4 working sessions on various issues. On the second day, the alliance’s leaders traditionally hold one of the sessions with the leaders of the NATO partner countries. However, there will be no such session this year, so the partner countries, including Ukraine and Georgia, have not been invited to Brussels.
