It may seem obvious to stress that the human method — the object of our geostrategic inquiry — must sink into the depths of a reality that evolves/involves. But it is not.
When our frames of reference wear out, through the metamorphosis of ourselves and of the world, it becomes even harder to grasp the sense, the meaning and the direction of the dynamics we are passing through. As re-creators of reality, it is we who generate those dynamics and, at the same time, it is we who struggle to understand and govern them.
If the world cannot but travel toward the beyond, in a race at times mad and uncontrolled, it is the task of thought to build the “toolbox” so that the majority of people can be as aware as possible of what is happening, beginning to ask questions — simultaneously — on the moral, cultural, political, economic and juridical planes.
A kind of detachment is under way, at least in the view of this writer, between the great part of humanity and the strategic challenges which, far from being distant or removed from our daily life, belong to us and shape everyone’s existence. That is why we need to question history again, and not merely take note of the answers that some (few, and ever fewer) give, invoking collective or planetary interest. Strategic challenges touch directly that “common good” which many call for as necessary — and it is — but without working it out within the reality that is coming to be.
The contours and contents of the common good must be rewritten, because the metamorphosis of ourselves and of the world is a change of state, a change of era. This is the essential and decisive point in the onlife condition, in a turbo-technological time that places us within a progress ever faster and more radical, hardly reflective, and “served” to the unaware masses as the almost magical fruit of a “new religion.” We all bear the responsibility of questioning history in order to recover that sense of limit which will not make us renounce our humanity (not by becoming slaves of machines but, far more realistically, of our own absence from ourselves).
From the geopolitical plane to the everyday one, the common good is the home of our “magnifica humanitas.” The five points of the method (moral, cultural, political, economic and juridical), developable in their interrelation, constitute a starting base so that, with realism and in the depth of reality, we human beings may find ourselves again — contradictory historical subjects.
There is a great deal of background noise around, often unbearable, which little by little we define as propaganda, disinformation and so on: what is needed, instead, is to revive within us the spirit of a generative silence — not the absence of words but that which makes them fully human, capable of re-creating reality and not merely repeating the dominant echo.
