The danger of perpetual tension

The war in Ukraine has revitalised NATO. The entry of Sweden and Finland, beyond the contingent facts, serves to increase the security of the alliance’s northern flank. The contours of a ‘defensive’ world are gradually being defined. While this is necessary, it is equally worrying. The global ruling classes seem to have chosen a different path for the future than the one we should hope for. What have the thirty years since the fall of the Berlin Wall taught us?

We express concern because, when the reasons of defence at all costs prevail instead of those of mediation, negotiation, diplomacy and dialogue, nothing good can be expected. We do not express a position of ‘radical pacifism’ but of (healthy) realism.
