As the COVID-19 pandemic accelerates digitisation and a shift to remote work, it has some anticipating a permanent shift in firm and residential location choices away from city centres. But the longer the pandemic lasts, the more it becomes evident that remote work does not allow the level of interactions that some jobs require and might not be sustainable. The pandemic will change cities but not render them irrelevant and policymakers will have to find ways to make urban living more affordable
