The incentives for Asian governments are clear: vaccinate as many people as you can as fast as you can. Lives will be saved, healthcare systems will be spared, economies will recover faster. The benefits aren’t just domestic. International capital seeks out the highest return. The economies that vaccinate and recover the fastest will enjoy a quicker recovery through a much-needed boost in investment, along with other first-mover advantages like increased flows of tourists, students and migrants. Rich or poor, the laggard countries will see the opposite.
