Al Arabiya – Hamad Mohammed Hamid, appointed governor of Kordofan last year by the Tasis administration linked to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), announced his defection from the paramilitary group in an interview with Al Arabiya.
Hamid called on RSF members to “return to the embrace of the homeland,” arguing that Sudanese have no choice but to unite against what he called “out-of-control militias.” He also accused the RSF of fueling tribal, communal, and racial tensions in various areas of the country.
During the interview, the former governor called for the restoration of legitimate state institutions in Kordofan and Darfur, claiming that the Tasis government was merely acting as a political front for the RSF. According to Hamid, the administration, which is close to the paramilitary group, has shown complicity, negligence, and indifference to international calls for action on the conflict.
Hamid also denounced the conditions in RSF-controlled areas, calling the suffering of the civilian population “heartbreaking” and accusing the paramilitary forces of pursuing a strategy based on the destruction of cities and the killing of civilians.
