Conflict Grinds on in Lebanon Despite a “Ceasefire”

(Soufan Center) Israel and the government of Lebanon are expanding their direct talks to include a military “track,” but Beirut is unwilling to order its forces to combat Hezbollah directly. The Lebanese government wants the formal ceasefire enforced and Israel to withdraw from South Lebanon in order to halt the fallout of the Israel-Hezbollah conflict on the Lebanese population. Hezbollah opposes the Israel-Lebanon talks as a capitulation by Beirut, as it improves its use of drone warfare against Israeli forces.
