Ciò che vediamo accadere in Medio Oriente, al di là delle reciproche espressioni minacciose e di vittoria dichiarata, apre spazi, anche se fragili, alla speranza. Mentre gli analisi si interrogano sui sottostanti movimenti di potere, qui riflettiamo sull’importanza della mediazione in una fase storica particolarmente critica e complessa, al contempo guardando oltre e calandoci nello spirito dei tempi.
Che cosa ci dicono i tempi che viviamo ? Come possiamo leggerli, interpretarli, quali prospettive possiamo intravedere ? Sono tempi bui ?
In sintesi, tornando su quanto abbiamo già scritto, viviamo una transizione nella discontinuità. Via rivoluzione tecnologica, l’accelerazione dei processi storici è evidente e si accompagna ad altrettanta radicalità. La linearità, espressione chiarissima di difesa, sacrifica – nel pensiero – la complessità del reale: gli istinti primordiali si scatenano in ogni ambito (condizione onlife), trasversalmente, senza limiti. Negare la complessità significa negare l’incertezza-che-siamo, facendoci perdere generatività (de-generazione) e aumentando pericolosamente l’insicurezza.
Se la mediazione è necessaria per tenere in piedi l’architettura globale, l’indefinibile – se non come legge della giungla – spirito dei tempi ci chiede di costruire i paradigmi indispensabili per vivere l’oltre, non lasciandoci travolgere. Perché il problema non sono i leader in quanto persone (quelli vanno e vengono) ma il loro agire in termini di scelte strategiche e la nostra responsabilità nel ripensarci pienamente umani e soggetti ‘di’ storia, non solo ‘in’ essa. Ecco che serve auto-formazione continua perché la comprensione dello spirito dei tempi passa dal re-istituire destino planetario, maturando un coraggio della storia che oggi sembra latitare. Le prospettive non nascono per automatismo ma dalla nostra convinzione di respirarle, di viverle, di sporcarci le mani.

What we see happening in the Middle East – beyond the mutual threats and declarations of victory – opens up spaces, however fragile, for hope. While analysts question the underlying power dynamics, here we reflect on the importance of mediation in a particularly critical and complex historical phase, while at the same time looking further ahead and immersing ourselves in the spirit of the times.
What are the times we live in telling us? How can we read and interpret them? What perspectives can we glimpse? Are these dark times?
In short, returning to what we have already written, we are living through a transition marked by discontinuity. Through the technological revolution, the acceleration of historical processes is evident and accompanied by equal radicality. Linearity – so clearly an expression of defense – sacrifices, in thought, the complexity of reality: primal instincts are unleashed everywhere (an onlife condition), across boundaries, without limits. To deny complexity is to deny the uncertainty-that-we-are, leading us to lose generativity (de-generation) and dangerously increasing insecurity.
If mediation is necessary to keep the global architecture standing, the spirit of the times – indefinable except as the law of the jungle – calls on us to build the paradigms essential for living beyond, without being swept away. The problem is not leaders as individuals (they come and go), but their actions in terms of strategic choices – and our responsibility to rethink ourselves as fully human and as subjects of history, not merely in it. Hence the need for continuous self-education, because understanding the spirit of the times requires re-establishing a planetary destiny and cultivating a courage of history that today seems to be missing. Perspectives do not emerge automatically but from our determination to breathe them, live them, and get our hands dirty.
