In a telephone interview with NBC, Trump stated that he is not yet ready to strike a deal with Tehran to end the war, despite Iran’s willingness to do so. The US President has asked several countries affected by Tehran’s actions to help secure the Strait of Hormuz, which is vital for the passage of oil tankers. On Truth on Saturday, Trump wrote that many countries would be sending warships, in coordination with the US, to ensure the Strait remains open and safe. During the telephone conversation, Trump noted that it is still unclear whether Iran has actually laid mines in the Strait. The tycoon also confirmed that US forces had carried out strikes against Kharg Island, a strategic island off the Iranian coast, noting that no action had been taken against energy pipelines. Attacking Zelensky, and without confirming whether or not the US had accepted Kiev’s assistance on drone interception technology, Trump said that sanctions on Russian oil would be reinstated once the Iranian crisis was over.
