At least 39 local ballot measures concerning data centres in 2026 have been identified across California, Florida, Illinois, Kansas, Michigan, Nevada, Ohio, and Wisconsin. Of these, 35 are scheduled for the 3 November general election, while four appeared earlier in the year.
The proposals include bans, temporary pauses, changes to land use rules, approvals for specific projects, and requirements for future voter approval. Some are advisory questions that record public opinion; others would change laws, local charters, zoning decisions, or development agreements.
