The United Kingdom and Germany have agreed to deepen cooperation in AI, quantum technology, space and industrial innovation following a meeting between Prime Minister Andy Burnham and Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz in Berlin on 8 October 2026. The leaders also completed the ratification of the Kensington Treaty, signed in London in July 2025, through an official exchange of documents.
The countries will establish an Industrial Tech Corridor to connect technology companies with industrial demand, initially focusing on AI and high-value industrial applications. A dedicated roundtable involving industry leaders, AI scale-ups and senior officials is planned for later this autumn. The partnership will also expand cooperation on countering hybrid threats, strengthening societal resilience and protecting critical national infrastructure.
