Global investment in AI infrastructure could reach €27.23 trillion through 2050, with electricity availability emerging as a major factor determining where new data centres can be developed, according to PwC’s new Global Data Centre Outlook.
PwC is a global professional services network providing audit, consulting, tax, and advisory services to businesses and organisations worldwide. The company projects annual data centre capital expenditure to increase from around €690 billion in 2026 to €1.55 trillion in 2050.
The USA is expected to attract 48% of cumulative investment, equivalent to €13.01 trillion, while Asia Pacific could account for €7.07 trillion, led by China and India. Sovereign AI strategies are also accelerating infrastructure investment in Europe and the Middle East.
