Reuters reports that President Donald J. Trump signed an executive order to reduce the recommended US childhood vaccine schedule to 11 core shots and to encourage splitting the MMR vaccine into separate measles, mumps, and rubella doses. The move advances a long-standing goal of Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and also directs the Justice Department to challenge state vaccination laws. Doctors, public health experts, vaccine makers, and even some Republicans strongly criticized the order. They said it is not supported by new scientific evidence, would create confusion for parents, could delay vaccinations, and would leave more children vulnerable to preventable diseases. The order is also controversial because Trump and Kennedy again raised the idea of a link between vaccines and autism, despite decades of research finding no such connection. Critics say the policy is driven more by ideology than by medical evidence.
