Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has met Chinese leader Xi Jinping in Beijing and they have announced a ‘new strategic partnership’. Among key concessions, the two leaders have agreed that China will lower tariffs on Canadian canola seed, while Canada will allow 49,000 Chinese EVs into its market. Carney’s visit comes after almost a decade of strained ties between Ottawa and Beijing. President Xi said there has been a “turnaround” of ties between China and Canada since both leaders met at a summit in November last year.
