A Trump-promised renaissance for Venezuelan oil and gas will be difficult to achieve. International oil companies are unlikely to make major new investments in the country without greater legal and regulatory certainty, but it may be possible to modestly raise production through immediate steps. Without real change from within, the Venezuelan industry will not be able to support the survival of the current regime or address entrenched humanitarian problems.
