(Peace and Security-Democratic Republic of the Congo/Rwanda) The United Nations on Friday welcomed a newly signed peace accord between the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rwanda as a “critical step” toward restoring trust, while warning that active fighting near border areas continue to exact a heavy toll on civilians. (Peace and Security-Israel/Lebanon) Israeli airstrikes took place within the UN peacekeeping force in Lebanon’s (UNIFIL) area of operations, the mission said in a statement issued on Friday. (Peace and Security-Israel/West Bank) A spike in Israeli military raids and settler violence across the occupied West Bank is driving new displacement, shutting schools and disrupting essential services for tens of thousands of Palestinians, the UN relief coordination office, OCHA, said in its latest humanitarian update Friday. (Human Rights-Syria) Summary executions and other violations continue in Syria nearly a year after the fall of the Assad regime, the UN human rights office, OHCHR, said on Friday. OHCHR is calling for more action to end the violence and achieve justice. “While the interim authorities have taken encouraging steps towards addressing past violations, these steps are only the beginning of what needs to be done,” spokesperson Thameen Al-Kheethan told journalists in Geneva. – Syria: Effort to buttress human rights since Assad’s fall, ‘only the beginning of what needs to be done’ | UN News

(Peace and Security-Mozambique) The ongoing emergency in northern Mozambique continues to worsen as prolonged attacks by non-state armed groups in Nampula trigger one of the largest displacement surges of the year, the UN warned on Friday. According to the UN aid coordination office, OCHA, 107,000 people have fled their homes in recent weeks, pushing total displacement in just the past four months to 330,000. “They barely had time to recover when they again had to leave, due to attacks or fear of attacks,” said Paola Emerson, OCHA Head of Office in Mozambique. – Mozambique’s displaced facing massive needs as attacks intensify | UN News

(Climate and Environment-Pakistan) Extreme weather has battered Pakistan in recent months, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake. Lives have been lost, livelihoods destroyed, and millions displaced. As communities struggle to rebuild, many have little time to grieve the immense losses they have suffered.
