Russia’s Armiya 2021 defence exhibition, held in Moscow from 22–28 August, saw the first appearance of what could be a key air-to-surface missile as part of a ‘mid-life’ upgrade for Russia’s two attack helicopters. The missile in effect doubles the engagement range that the manufacturer can offer for the attack helicopters and also provides a day/night capability at extended range. Russia’s recent combat experience in Syria may have reinforced the need for a weapon in this class and may have influenced its final development.+
