The top diplomat will “meet with key Hungarian officials to bolster our shared bilateral and regional interests,” a State Department spokesperson said. Rubio’s visit takes on added significance ahead of an April election, where Prime Minister Viktor Orbán faces a tough challenge from conservative Tisza party leader Péter Magyar. President Donald Trump threw his support behind Orbán last week, saying he has “my Complete and Total Endorsement for Re-Election as Prime Minister of Hungary.”
