Il tema è chiaro. I bulli geopolitici giocano ognun per sé. Questo è il mondo che stiamo vivendo: un mondo che esalta la potenza della giungla, stanco della globalizzazione e di ogni forma di regolamentazione.
Dallo spazio al profondo dei mari, passando per la Terra, la parola d’ordine è sempre di più deregolamentare, lasciar fare agli spiriti animali, costruire tavoli da poker tattico sui quali non si gioca minimamente alla visione storica: la questione è tutta, e solo, difendersi dagli altri, attaccandoli.
Non c’è alcuna traccia di preoccupazione per la sostenibilità, non solo ambientale ma sistemica. Se le spinte sono a distruggere il vecchio, e malandato, ordine multilaterale, non se ne vede un altro all’orizzonte. Non interessa.
Altresì, si sta consumando un evidente oltraggio alla vita. Se le guerre non sono mai un gioco da ragazzi, quelle di oggi hanno superato ogni limite etico; i bulli, nel laissez-faire dominante, continuano a cercare compromessi che volano sulla testa degli affamati, dei feriti, dei morti.
E c’è la violenza che attraversa le nostre società. Spesso silente, è il male banale che ritorna e che prepara progressivamente l’odio per i prossimi decenni della nostra vita. Se dovessimo dire quali sono i nostri migliori anni, non sono certamente questi che stiamo vivendo.
Le classi dirigenti, vecchie e nuove, dovrebbero guardarsi allo specchio e, quanto meno, ammettere un fallimento strategico. Invece no, esaltano il pensiero lineare, si danno forza reciproca, si alimentano nel disastro oggettivo che li circonda. Gli intellettuali sembrano assonnati, confusi: mentre alcuni pongono il problema di necessarie nuove vie per nuovi futuri (portando il pensiero complesso nel dibattito), i più cercano di guadagnare qualche spazio nella situazione attuale. Mentre i bulli (armati e tecnologicamente avanzatissimi) giocano per sé, gli altri (intellettuali compresi) dormono un sonno che non è mai stato così pesante.

The theme is clear. Geopolitical bullies are playing for themselves. This is the world we are living in: a world that exalts the power of the jungle, tired of globalisation and all forms of regulation.
From space to the depths of the seas, passing through the Earth, the watchword is increasingly deregulation, letting animal spirits run wild, building tactical poker tables where there is no room for historical vision: the issue is entirely, and only, defending oneself from others by attacking them.
There is no trace of concern for sustainability, not only environmental but systemic. If the push is to destroy the old, broken multilateral order, there is no other on the horizon. No one cares.
Furthermore, an obvious outrage against life is taking place. While wars are never child’s play, today’s wars have gone beyond all ethical limits; bullies, in the prevailing laissez-faire climate, continue to seek compromises that fly over the heads of the hungry, the wounded and the dead.
And then there is the violence that pervades our societies. Often silent, it is the banal evil that returns and gradually prepares the ground for hatred in the coming decades of our lives. If we had to say which are our best years, they are certainly not the ones we are living now.
The ruling classes, old and new, should look in the mirror and, at the very least, admit strategic failure. Instead, they exalt linear thinking, give each other strength, and feed off the objective disaster that surrounds them. Intellectuals seem sleepy and confused: while some raise the issue of necessary new paths for new futures (bringing complex thinking into the debate), most try to gain some space in the current situation. While the bullies (armed and technologically advanced) play for themselves, the others (including intellectuals) sleep a sleep that has never been so heavy.
