Impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on India’s federalism (Ramanath Jha, ORF)

No country in the world, whatever be its political architecture, went unscathed from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. The coronavirus engendered an unprecedented crisis requiring a response unparalleled in scale and complexity. Democratic and federalist strengths that in ordinary times stood in good stead for such countries, found these structures under great stress. Many of these national political constructs underwent a recalibration. This article specifically deals with the Indian experience of battling the pandemic and the impact this experience left on the country’s federal architecture.
