While the blunt rhetoric coming out of the administration regarding the status of Greenland dominates media headlines, the growing geostrategic importance of the Arctic is quickly being realized, suggesting that the North Pacific—once the area of close U.S.-Japan defense cooperation during the Cold War—may re-enter the strategic debate between Tokyo and Washington.
