A coalition of AI companies, cloud providers, researchers and investors launched a National Compute Grid on 7 October 2026. The initiative aims to connect underused computing resources with organisations seeking capacity for AI research. It is led by a consortium rather than the US government.
The proposed grid would pool resources from laboratories, cloud platforms and different chip systems. A shared scheduling system would allocate capacity to users. Its organisers advocate coordination around an open standard to support commercial research and public sector use.
