Canada launches National Council on Artificial Intelligence

Canada has launched the Prime Minister’s National Council on Artificial Intelligence, an independent advisory body that will provide advice on the implementation of the country’s AI strategy and its wider AI transformation.

The council brings together researchers, entrepreneurs, investors, public servants, and experts in AI safety, governance, and oversight. Its mandate covers AI adoption across the economy, the transformation of government services, talent and research, AI safety and governance, and sovereign AI infrastructure.

The council will also advise on partnerships and new AI-focused initiatives, giving the government access to expertise from different parts of the AI ecosystem as it implements its national strategy.
