The Pentagon has asked the White House to approve a request to Congress for over $200 billion to fund the war in Iran. The Washington Post reports this, citing sources who say the amount exceeds the costs the administration has incurred so far in its operation against Iran. It is unclear whether the White House will ultimately ask Congress for that amount. According to some administration officials, the amount requested by the Pentagon is unrealistic.
The Trump administration is considering sending thousands of U.S. troops to the Middle East. Reuters reports this on its website, noting that one of the options under discussion is sending ground forces to Kharg Island. Another alternative is deploying troops along Iran’s coastline to ensure safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz. The administration is also considering the possibility of deploying forces to secure Iran’s enriched uranium.
U.S. President Donald Trump has threatened to destroy Iran’s massive South Pars gas field if Tehran were to attack the major liquefied natural gas (LNG) production facility in Ras Laffan, Qatar, again. Trump confirmed on his Truth Social platform that Israel struck South Pars, but stated that the United States was unaware of the raid that led to Iran’s retaliation against Ras Laffan. Trump emphasizes that there will be no further attacks by Israel against the South Pars field, unless Iran recklessly decides to attack a completely innocent country, namely Qatar. In that case, the United States of America, with or without Israel’s assistance or consent, will massively destroy the entire South Pars gas field. Saudi Arabia stated today that it reserves the right to respond militarily against Iran, which regularly targets the country with drones and missiles.
