PLA purges: CCP General Secretary Xi Jinping has expanded his military purges, expelling nine of the seniormost generals from the CCP and referring them to criminal prosecution. The most recent purges appear to target a distinct human network and are part of Xi’s continued efforts to assert his personal control over the PLA.
Taiwanese military modernization: The Taiwanese EY approved a large investment in domestic drone production and procurement to enhance Taiwanese defenses against PRC aggression. These moves reflect the Taiwanese commitment to integrating advanced technologies, such as drones, into its defensive concept.
Taiwanese resilience: The Taiwanese LY approved a special budget to support preparations to withstand a PLA blockade. The budget provides funds to stockpile fuel and other critical supplies, among other things. The LY passed the budget in a rare instance of tri-partisan cooperation among the three major political parties.
