Japan is maintaining its diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives to revitalise its economy and address its rapidly declining population, with foreign shareholders hitherto playing a key role in pushing for gender and managerial diversity. But the country’s resistance to altering traditional management practices, coupled with a lingering lack of foreign and female executives, hampers innovation and growth. It is crucial for Japan to continue to embrace increasing diversity in the workforce given its labour shortage and increasing reliance on foreign workers.
