Israel has reportedly advanced land enforcement activity in the West Bank through a unit within the Israel Land Authority (ILA), which uses artificial intelligence (AI) to detect suspected land use violations. The reported use of AI in the West Bank has received criticism from Palestinian representatives and the Israeli rights group Peace Now.
Peace Now noted in September 2025 that Israel’s Finance Ministry had requested 21 additional staff positions for an ILA enforcement unit operating in the West Bank. Based on the UN report published in early 2026, the unit had been established in April 2025 to identify what Israeli authorities describe as ‘illegal Palestinian construction’ in the West Bank.
