The United States and Venezuela’s interim authorities have agreed to re-establish diplomatic and consular relations. The US State Department reported that this step will facilitate our joint efforts to promote stability, support economic recovery and political reconciliation in Venezuela. The US aims to help the Venezuelan people move forward with a gradual process that creates the conditions for a peaceful transition to a democratically elected government. The United States confirms its commitment to the Venezuelan people and to working with regional partners on stability and prosperity. In recent months, after a phase of exploratory contacts and preliminary diplomatic missions, Washington and Caracas have begun negotiations to reopen their respective representations and re-establish official channels of cooperation.
