Ogni dinamica contribuisce contemporaneamente all’evoluzione-involuzione sistemica.

The world as a mosaic

We were writing about cultural responsibility as the need to reconnect with reality through complex thinking.

It is a question, in the changing era we are living through, of radically transforming our approach and returning to knowledge, con-naitre, being reborn together in reality. Put like that, it is easy to understand how knowledge is not just information about what is happening: there is something else, something very profound.

There is the idea that the world should be observed and understood as a mosaic, an inextricable set of dynamics that are inseparable from one another: far from being merely a cultural attitude, it is a profoundly political option because it relates to the ability to govern a planet, Earth as common house, of growing complexity.

Each dynamic contributes simultaneously to systemic evolution-involution. Whichever way we look at the mosaic, we realise that the centre only concerns the redefinition of power relations, what we call the view from above. If, on the other hand, we go into the depths, we realise that life unfolds in the existential peripheries, in the many nodes that are bound up in each other. For this reason, we cannot say that the fate of ‘others’ does not concern us, just as every war – even those far away territorially – belongs to us, and also every phenomenon of environmental degradation. And much more.

Each of us, in essence, has a systemic responsibility and is bound to care for the world-mosaic. When we speak of personal responsibility, we are talking about a person-world, a historical subject, not the self-referential individual: understanding the world-mosaic means understanding the mosaic that is each one of us, a continuous synthesis of a complexity that is broader than our ‘particular’. It is time to operate a radical ‘metànoia’, to realise that the complex path to the political-strategic sustainability of the world and worlds passes from there.
