China tests quantum gear on rocket to build unbreakable, secure comms link (Interesting Engineering)

China has performed a key test on a quantum-based network that could provide ultra-secure communications from space. The test took place during the two-minute vertical flight test of Space Epoch’s Yanxingzhe-1 rocket, which took place last Thursday. During that flight, the Yanxingzhe-1 was carrying a laser module and a phase encoding device. The two devices, developed by scientists at the Beijing Academy of Quantum Information Sciences, were tested to see if they could withstand the rigors of spaceflight.
